3 Ways To Establish A Routine For Your Busy Life

Your step-by-step habitual process is what ultimately becomes your routine. Likely you’ve been told over and over that creating a routine is essential to your success and overall productivity. It’s true, they are absolutely necessary but it’s not always easy to figure out how create one. A solid routine puts things on autopilot so you can focus on the more complex or more important tasks in life. That being said, let’s discuss some ways that you can establish routines in your life.

What Every Routine Needs

In order to establish a productive routine there are 3 things that you need to focus on to be successful.

Diligence: Don’t go about setting patterns without doing research and being realistic about what you really can do. For instance, don’t promise yourself you’ll go to the gym each day during your lunch break if you only have an hour lunch and the gym is more than 5-10 minutes away. You’d be creating a conditional system for yourself if you couldn’t properly manage your time every day. Instead create routines that while challenging, still fit into the functionality of your daily life and responsibilities.

Time: A key element to establishing a habit or routine is time. It can take anywhere from 21-90 days to create a habit so you’ve got to stay committed to the process and know that creating your routine isn’t going to happen overnight. Of course the less complex the routine the shorter time it will take to become a habit.

Effort: It’s great to have an elaborate plan of action and “talk the talk” but you’re going to have to give 100 percent in order to create a routine. Don’t allow yourself to give up or change the plan. Although it may not be a walk in the park every day, your dedication to seeing results and doing the work will yield the most positive result.

Write It Down: Get a plan and write it down. This allows little room for error and helps you plan out how everything should work. You can take it a step further and hang your plan in a place that you will see everyday or side-by-side with your vision board.

Implement Your Plan: Now that you have your plan it’s time to make it work for you. Use productivity and time management apps to help you keep track of how your habit is working and notify you when you need to do something that’s part of your routine.

Review and Adjust: Every 30 days or so review and assess what is and isn’t working for you. If it’s not working, readjust.
