Get Motivated!

The other day while running suicide exercises with my fitness group, the fitness trainer encouraged us to cheer on those that were running their sprints while we waited on our turn. At first, people were not really into it. A couple of claps here and there were about all you could get. Determined to help, I sprang into action, and began yelling and clapping with reckless abandon. After a few sprints, I was able to get everyone into it, and you could tell the difference it made on those that were running.

The reason I achieved my goal of getting everyone motivated was because I was motivated myself. Motivation is a key driver for success, and without it, you’ll end up in failure every time. Today I’ll discuss what motivation is, the types of motivation, and some tips on getting motivated.

So, what is motivation? Motivation is the causation of behavior, or why we do what we do. For instance, the desire to help was my motivation to cheer on the others in my group. It’s like a spark that makes you want to accomplish something.

There are two main types of motivation: external motivation (outside motivating influences) and self-motivation (the ability to motivate yourself). External motivation is a positive in most cases. Dilemmas, life experiences, or other people can all motivate us to do something to change our situation. However, the danger of external motivation is becoming dependent on it. I couldn’t tell you how many people I’ve met that are just waiting around for something special to happen to change their lives. How many people do you know that wait for things to “happen” instead of taking charge of the situation?

Self-motivation is clearly the better of the two because you don’t have to rely on other people or situations to act. Although difficult to obtain, self-motivation is invaluable. It’s self-motivation that will carry you through when things are difficult and no one else is around. I’m extremely self-motivated; I enjoy seeing things until the end and really hate http://cialishowtobuy.com/ to quit. While I appreciate having others motivate me to become successful, I much more enjoy completing my goals because I said I would.

There are many different ways to motivate yourself. Here are some of my self-motivation techniques:

  1. I continually develop my faith in myself and my God to help me get motivated. Not only do I have to believe I can do something; I have to KNOW I can do it. Once I have that established, the rest is cake.
  2. I also sometimes think about the outcome of my goal if I were and weren’t able to complete it. Once I can visualize each outcome, I hold on to them and keep them in the forefront so I don’t forget what I’m working for.
  3. I leave myself with no other option. In the book Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill discusses the story of how Edwin Barnes left everything to become Thomas Edison’s business partner. Barnes had nothing to come back to; if Edison declined, Barnes would have had nowhere to go. However, because he risked it all and was determined at all costs, he made a fortune along with Edison. I think about this story whenever I need motivation to draw on.

We all need the proper motivation to do great things.  Lack of motivation leads to procrastination, laziness, and subsequently, failure. However, an understanding of motivation and some tips on how to apply it will do wonders when it counts.

How easy is it for you to get motivated? Does it come easy to you or is it a struggle? What do you use for motivation?
