Short-Term and Long Term Goals

I’ve decided over the next few weeks to set some serious goals for myself. These include short-term goals lasting from a few weeks to a few months as well as long-term milestones over the course of 5 years. I think it is vital for people to set goals because it gives you something to focus your energy on while keeping you motivated and developing a mentality of success. I think many people fall into pits of quicksand, stuck doing the same thing and never getting anywhere, because they do not set and work to achieve their goals. They say, “Ehhh… things will work themselves out. I have way too many things to think about at the moment.” Or maybe these people were never taught how to set good goals (It’s probably a combination of the two, but I’m just speculating at this point).

Anyways, here is a good post from Jill at Creating my way to Success on setting goals. She provides a good example of a SMART goal: increasing her blog traffic. I figure if I can set some SMART goals and achieve them over the course of the next few years, success will be within my grasp. Here is one goal I have so far:

Read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and write reviews on each book by the end of the summer.

Think and Grow Rich has a special place in my heart; it was the match that sparked my burning desire to be successful in the first place! It is the most influential book I have read to date. The thing that really impresses me, however, is the fact that it was written in 1937, and yet one can find overwhelming value in it for years to come. Definitely worth adding to your library, trust me. I only read it once so far (and foolishly gave it away), but feel that it is all too vital to my success to internalize its message and reap its benefits.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad is a book I’ve been hea

ring a lot of lately. This book was something I have been meaning to buy since it has gotten rave reviews and comes highly recommended. I finally pulled the trigger and started reading the introduction today. If the introduction is any indication of how the remainder of the book will be, the price I paid for it will be repaid many times over!

I will be posting many more goals over the next few weeks. If you have any more books to recommend, please pay it forward and share them with me below.

Success is only a few goals away.
