Goals Update, 1/5/12
Goal: Read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and write reviews on each book by the end of the summer. (Target 12/31/11)
Status: Postponed. Sadly, I still haven’t gotten to this yet. I really want to get into writing reviews and depending on the demand of the semester I may still have that chance.
New Target Date: 6/30/12
Goal: Pay off my car in full. (Target 6/30/12)
Status: In Progress. I’m almost there! I am well on-track to be car payment-free by July and I’m very excited. Barring any setbacks, I should be one step closer to financial freedom.
Goal: Trade my first stock option. (Target 10/31/11)
Status: Complete! Kind of. I was invited by my roommate to join an Investopedia stock picking game where you start off with $250K worth of Monopoly money and do the best you can until December. I actually traded two options, one on Clearwire (which I lost $300 on) and one on Amazon (which I made a whopping $7000 on). However, I need to research a bunch more before I start investing real money into stock options.
Goal: Purchase a home. (Target 8/30/12)
Status: Postponed. Since I’m working and I’m in school, I’m really leaning towards postponing this goal until 2014, when I graduate and I’ll have the time to devote to a home. As much as I desire to be a homeowner, I want the right one. I also want to be able to keep it up, do some home improvement, etc. Plus, it will give me a chance to save some cash. So at this point, I’m going to make the mature decision and hold up on this one for awhile.
New Target Date: 8/30/14
Goal: Accumulate $50,000 in liquid equity in 5 years. (Target 12/31/16)
Status: In Progress. Good news! I’m 1/10 of the way there! Still got plenty of time, and hopefully I can really put some money into savings as I get older. But any savings is better than none!
Goal: Make President’s List this semester. (Target 12/17/11)
Status: Missed. Yep, my dream of making All A’s in the Fall 2011 semester was foiled by a perfect storm of difficult classes and increased workload at my job. My final grades were a B and a B+, which I definitely can’t complain about given the absurdity of the semester. Spring 2012 looks much brighter, though. My classes seem a lot easier and I’ve gotten somewhat adjusted to busting my behind for an entire semester, so this could be the one!
Goal: Make President’s List three times in my MBA program.
Status: In Progress. I am of course still 0% complete with this, but I have 4 full semesters left so I have a bit of wiggle room left. Like I discussed above, I will hopefully make some progress towards achieving this goal with a solid academic performance this semester.
