5 Tips For Academic Success

It’s that time of the year again when everyone is preparing to head back to school. Perhaps this is your first time heading to college, or maybe you’re an experienced upperclassman. No matter the case, there are still some steps that you need to take in order to ensure that become and remain a successful student. If you really want to put your best foot forward academically, spending 3 hours on some simple life hacks (I’m sharing below) will get you ahead of the game and and on top of your gpa.

5 Tips For Academic Success:

Request a copy of your syllabus 2 weeks before your first class: Set yourself up for success with this simple proactive request. Having your syllabus helps you to plan well in advance for every paper, exam and major project. Simply email your professors, introduce yourself and and request your class syllabus. Not only does this help to put you at the top of your game but this also helps your professor become familiar with you and your work ethic.

Set A Study Schedule: Be proactive and create a schedule that will allow you time to experience the fun aspect of college life, but also create time for you to study. This is the perfect time to download time management apps for your phone/tablet and utilize amazing online calendars like google calendar.  When scheduling, be sure to add in work sessions that help you tackle all of your upcoming assignments.

Introduce Yourself To Your Professors: Don’t just become a face in the crowd. Make sure that you make time (within the first week of classes) to introduce yourself to your professors and TA’s (teachers assistants) so that they can place a face with your name. Ask them how to become successful in their course and be sure to ask any questions that you have related to the syllabus.

Always Stay Ahead: How? By reading in advance before class starts and trying to stay at least one chapter ahead of the reading schedule. Instead of freaking out during mid-term and finals time, you can be at ease and well studied.

Develop A Study Group: Not only does this help you stay accountable to your work, but it also gives you the chance to help others in areas where they may struggle and visa versa. Personally speaking, I would have certainly failed Chemistry had I never joined a study group and gotten that extra support.
How do you plan to make this your most successful academic year?
