Visualize Your Success

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.

Mahatma Gandhi

Many of us today strive to meet this mantra but how many of us do? We all want to achieve happiness in all aspects of our lives and yet it often seems to elude us. We know what we want but can’t seem to get there. What stops us? Why can’t we put our plan into action? Sometimes our lives get cluttered by the everyday mundane rituals of life. You might say “I’m too busy to follow my dreams,” or “it’s going to take too long.” However, the first you need to understand is that to reach your goals, you must believe that you can achieve them. You need to visualize what you want out of life and see yourself attainting it. By doing so it will not only give you the motivation but also the strength and the courage to pursue your happiness.

How to visualize your goal

What is visualization? Simply put, it’s a technique involving focusing on positive mental images in order to achieve a particular goal. In other words, visualization converts the invisible to the visible. Now, this is not daydreaming or wishful thinking but a practical and plausible way to achieve the success you want in your life. This works because you think about the goal you want to accomplish the way you want to accomplish it using as many details as possible. This actually creates in your brain neural patterns that you would normally develop if you had physically performed the task. In fact research has shown that mental exercises are as effective as physical exercises and that the best results come from doing both rather than one. So, as the saying goes “seeing is believing”.

Tips on visualization

Here are some suggestions to help you get the most out of visualization. Note that these steps require time and commitment so be willing to put in the work.

  1. Write it down – don’t count on your memory on this one. For visualization to be effective you must have a clear and distinct objective. Write down what you want to do and how you’re going to do it.
  2. Relax – find a nice quiet environment where no one will disturb you. It might mean waiting till the kids have gone to school or going to the park. Any where you go make sure it is private.
  3. Start visualizing – while taking deep breaths, close your eyes, start to think about your objective see yourself achieving your goal in as much detail as you can. Add feelings to your thoughts include all your senses.
  4. Practice – you want to try and do this at this for 10 min each time. Don’t give up; think positively throughout the process.

How does visualization help you?

These techniques will not only help you to focus better but will inspire and move you to break free from what has held you back from reaching your goal.  Visualization will get you to get out that slump you’re in and on the road to improving your life. It is only natural to think about the obstacles that can get in your way when we think of making your dreams a reality, but don’t let them grow so big in your mind that it prevents you from reaching out for your success. Visualization when added to hard work, effort and practice will help you to successfully create the life you desire! Former NBA star Jerry “Mr. Clutch” West was best known for hitting the winning shots at the buzzer. When asked what helped him to make those big shots, he expressed he has imagined making those same shots numerous times in his mind.

Make a habit of creating positive visions throughout the day. Don’t be satisfied with mediocrity; if you can’t picture yourself achieving your dreams, chances are you never will.

Remember… when you visualize your success, you can Possess Your Success!
